โ All Travel Guides
The right travel tech can mean the difference between a smooth international tour and a frustrating one. As a tour coordinator I've seen every tech mishap imaginable โ dead phones, incompatible adapters, roaming charges in the hundreds of dollars. This guide prevents all of it.
Group tours move fast. You'll be navigating unfamiliar cities, staying connected with family back home, and capturing memories at every stop. Having the right technology โ and knowing how to use it before you leave โ is essential.
Power & Charging
The first question every traveler on my Australia & New Zealand tour asks is: "What adapter do I need?" Australia and New Zealand use Type I outlets โ two flat diagonal pins arranged in a V shape. Nothing you own in the US will plug in without an adapter.
โก Important: Australia Power
Australia runs on 230V/50Hz. The US runs on 110V/60Hz. Most modern electronics (phones, laptops, cameras) automatically handle this difference โ check your device's power brick for "100-240V" to confirm. Hair dryers and straighteners often do NOT convert โ buy a dual-voltage travel version instead.
โญ Most Essential Item
๐
EPICKA Universal Travel Adapter
Works in 150+ countries. 4 USB-A ports + 1 USB-C PD port. Compact, handles up to 6A total. Includes AU/NZ Type I plug.
Kelly's Pick Because:
This is the one I hand out the details for to every single traveler. The USB-C port is fast enough for modern phones and the compact size fits in any outlet without blocking the second socket.

Anker 737 Power Bank (24,000mAh)
140W output, charges laptops as well as phones. Built-in display showing charge level. Airline-safe capacity with the right model.
Kelly's Pick Because:
This charges your phone AND laptop. On a 17-day tour with long travel days, a high-wattage power bank is worth every penny. Check the specific model's mAh against your airline's limit before buying.

Dual-Voltage Travel Hair Dryer
Specifically designed for international travel. Switches between 110V and 220-240V. Compact fold-up handle.
Kelly's Pick Because:
Do NOT bring your regular hair dryer to Australia. It will fry โ sometimes spectacularly. A dual-voltage travel dryer is a one-time purchase that lasts for years of international travel.

Staying Connected: eSIMs & Data
This is where most travelers either save a lot of money or waste a lot of money. International roaming charges from US carriers can add hundreds of dollars to your phone bill. There's a much smarter way to stay connected.
Your Options for International Data
- International roaming plan โ convenient but expensive. Check your carrier's rates before leaving.
- eSIM (recommended) โ buy a digital SIM for Australia/NZ before you leave. Activate instantly, keep your US number.
- Local SIM card โ cheapest option, but you'll need an unlocked phone and a new number.
- Pocket WiFi device โ one device connects the whole family. Available for rent at airports.

Airalo eSIM for Australia & NZ
Download a local data plan before you leave. Works on all eSIM-compatible iPhones (XS and newer) and Android phones. Plans from 1GB to 20GB.

Security & Anti-Theft Tech
Australia and New Zealand are both very safe destinations, but tourist areas anywhere in the world attract opportunistic theft. These tools give you peace of mind without being paranoid:
๐
RFID Blocking Passport Wallet
Slim profile holds passport, cards, cash, and boarding pass. Blocks RFID/NFC electronic theft. Multiple color options.
Kelly's Pick Because:
Keep your passport and travel documents safe and organized in one place. The RFID blocking protects against electronic pickpocketing in crowded airports and tourist areas.
